After Samsung and Huawei launched foldable telephones with plastic-based transparent displays, Corning says they run on bendy glass displays.
Corning, one of Apple’s iPhone glass providers, is working on bendy glass shows. This technology will permit Apple and other telephone companies to release advanced foldable smartphones, as Samsung and Huawei currently provide plastic polymer-primarily based models.
According to a Wired file, Corning is developing an ultra-slim bendy glass that is ready 0.1mm thick and may be bent to a 5mm radius. The glassmaker, however, admits it’s nevertheless looking to cope with a number of challenges, including ensuring glass retains its sturdiness after extended use.

Motorola, also working on a Razer turn-cellphone-like foldable smartphone, also pointed out the possible flaw in the first era of commercial foldable telephones.
“We were trying out a plastic OLED tool with a plastic movie on top,” Motorola VP of Global Product Dan Dery advised Engadget last month. “The fact that you’re touching [that kind of display] along with your nails is scratching it. It has a brief life proper away; it starts demise the day you unpack it. But it’s lovely. That first day, it’s stunning.”
Corning says it can take some years for business foldable glass-based telephones to become available. Apple is planning a foldable iPhone in 2020 and is already working with some Asian partners in this regard.
